Cutter Suction Dredger Configuration

In projects such as port channel maintenance and reservoir desilting, the operational efficiency of cutter suction dredgers is often simplistically attributed solely to power ratings. In reality, the key factors determining actual dredging capacity are the matching of the hydraulic system, the structural stability of the hull, and the integrated design of the underwater cutting mechanism.

The equipment features a carbon steel hull (27 m × 5.5 m) and a discharge pipeline with a 300 mm diameter to facilitate material transport. A hydraulic drive system with a 100 kW power output controls two core operations: the rotary cutting action of the cutter head and the suction of the water-sediment mixture. The adjustable dredging depth (ranging from 0 to 20 m) is achieved through the design coordination between the cutter ladder's articulated mechanism and the vessel's draft (1.4 m). When converting a clear-water flow rate of 2,800 m³/h into actual material transport capacity, the sediment content threshold corresponding to a 90% recovery rate must be taken into account.
